High Performance Data Intensive Computing Systems Lab

Dr. Grant Scott

The High-Performance Data-Intensive Computing Systems Lab has a diverse collection of scholars that are conducting research as members of the College of Engineering (MS/PhD in CS or CS) or Institute for Data Science and Informatics (MS DSA, PhD Informatics). Numerous lab members are specializing in Deep Learning research, including novel designs for various network architectures and rich applications of Geospatial AI. Lab scholars are also exploring other data-intensive computing, such as data science and data mining from multi-modal data and feature systems. We currently have mini-groups meeting on topics such as Overhead Vision, Drone Vision, Eldercare, and Geospatial AI for Health.

Dr. Scott is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the Institute for Data Science and Informatics, and a founding Director of the Data Science and Analytics Master’s Degree program at the University of Missouri (MU). He has participated in projects for the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), NGA, DIA, Army, Air Force, Army ERDC, NRL, NRO, and DARPA. He is currently mentoring or leading research projects in several areas including data science, machine learning, computer vision, multi-modal analytics, high-performance computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and geospatial analytics. He served as the Program Manager (principal and architect) of the University of Missouri's 5-year Program of Study in Data Science training contract for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and other DOD/IC customers. Dr. Scott was recognized by the MU College of Engineering with the Outstanding Junior Faculty Research Award, Spring of 2021, and the Missouri Honors Award, Special Academic Appointment, Spring 2015.
